Saints´ Ingram appeals four-game suspension

9 maggio 2018 18:24

New Orleans saints running back Mark Ingram has appealed his four-game suspension handed down on Tuesday for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Ingram, who is seeking a new contract despite his circumstances, has not been present during voluntary offseason workouts but will be permitted to participate in all of the Saints' offseason work and training camp as well as the preseason.

"At the end of the 2017 season, as a result of a NFL mandated random drug test, Mark Ingram tested positive for a substance that was not a performance enhancing substance, nor an illegal substance, but a substance in fact permissible with the proper use exemption with the NFL," agents Paul Bobbitt and David Jones said in a statement on Wednesday.

"He has vigorously challenged the test results through the arbitration process.

"Upon having the opportunity to review the arbitrator's opinion, we will explore what further options are needed."

A decision on the ban is due from an arbiter by May 16.

Ingram led New Orleans with 230 carries for 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns last season while adding 58 catches for 416 yards.

Should his suspension stand, 2017 Offensive Rookie of the Year Alvin Kamara figures to receive the vast majority of the carries having racked up 1,554 yards from scrimmage and scored 13 touchdowns last season.
